Guatemala Medical Mission
Scribe: Ron Schlitt Editor: Fred Wittenberger
Peter gave a report on his recent trip to Guatemala as part of the medical mission. The program started in 2004. This was Peter’s 14th trip. Approximately 45 people are involved mostly from the Midwest. They work approximately 7 hours per day with temperatures in the 90s by early afternoon. The school site in Olivares, Guatemala serves as the clinic site for the week. The biggest reason for tooth decay among the children is that they like to suck on sugar cane during the day. It is a big problem and hard to correct. Peter also shared that 69 children were funded through the scholarship program this year. Peter plans to participate again next year. He believes it is a very worthwhile program.
