Allison – February 2020-21 Student of the Month

Allison is a goalkeeper on the girls’ soccer team and a member of the National Honor Society, the Best Buddies Program, and the HUHS Student-Athlete Leadership Council.  She is also active in the Hartford Helping Hands 4-H Club.  Through 4-H, Allison learned woodworking skills and how to become a better leader.

Allison has given back to the community by volunteering her time serving meals at the Summerfield Soup Kitchen and for Family Promise of Washington County.  She has participated in the Salvation Army Bell Ringing campaign and helped with set construction for the Central Middle School and HUHS musicals. Allison has also served as a Special Olympics Volunteer Soccer and Basketball Coach and a Vacation Bible School leader through St. Kilian Church.

After graduation from high school, Allison plans to attend college to pursue a major in Early Childhood Special Education.

Jada – February 2020-21 Student of the Month

Jada has participated in JV girls tennis, the Fall Musical, the Spring Play, the Best Buddies Program, Forensics, Concert Choir, and Orchestra at HUHS.  She loves music and performing and was selected for the WSMA State Honors Choir in 2019 and 2020.  Jada has performed in eleven musicals and plays at Hartford.  Her favorite role was Pinocchioe in the musical “Shrek”.  Jada currently serves as President of the HUHS Concert Choir. 

Jada has given back to her community by volunteering her time at Central Middle School and at Northbrook Church.  She has also hosted shoe drives for the  people in Haiti and participated in community theater..

After high school, Jada plans to attend King’s College in New York City to pursue a major in Media, Culture, and the Arts with an emphasis in Musical Theater.

Irene – 2020-21 January Student of the Month

Irene competed on the Varsity Girls Swim team all four years, serving as team captain the past two years, and was named MVP of the team.  She competed in the State Swim meet all four years with her main event being the 50 Freestyle.  Irene is also very active in the music program at HUHS.  She is a  Color Guard member (4 years) and captain (2 years), first chair oboe in symphonic band, alto in concert choir, State Honors Choir (2 years), and participates in the fall musical and spring play.  Irene also enjoyed participating on two band trips to Florida and another trip to London, England with the HUHS Music Department.

Irene has given back to the community by participating on summer mission trips and volunteer work through her church, First United Methodist Church in Hartford.

After graduation from high school, Irene plans to attend UW-Stevens Point to pursue a major in Music Education.

Hayley – January 2020-21 Student of the Month

Hayley has participated in girls swim and dive for the past four years and has been on the varsity team the past three years.  She has been involved in the spring play for four years and is a member of the art club creatif, the Best Buddies program, the SMART/MAPS team and National Honor Society.  Hayley currently serves as secretary of the Best Buddies program at the high school.  She qualified for the state sectional swim meet in 2020 and has submitted two art pieces to the National Scholastic Art Competition.

Hayley has been a chair member of the Erin School Fun Fair for the past six years and has helped organize and run the Erin School Fun Run.  She has recently been volunteering at a local women’s shelter to give back to the community.

            After high school, Hayley plans to go into astrophysics or the medical field but at this time is undecided on the school she plans to attend.

Martina – December 2020-21 Student of the Month

Martina is active in Girls’ Volleyball, National Honor Society, DECA, FBLA, and H-Club at HUHS.  She has received special recognition by being named an AP Scholar, DECA member of the month, and a Girl Scout Silver Award recipient. Martina received Second Team All-Conference recognition in Girls’ Volleyball, placed 6th in the State DECA competition, and was an international qualifier in DECA.

Martina has given back to the community by volunteering her time as a Girl Scout camp counselor and participating in the FBLA/DECA Crayon Drive, the Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign, the H-Club Thanksgiving food drive, the H-Club Christmas Present Drive, and the HUHS days of community service.

After graduation from high school, Martina plans to attend Viterbo University to pursue a degree in Business Education.  She also plans to play volleyball at Viterbo.  Martina would like to become a high school business teacher.

Alaina – December 2020-21 Student of the Month

Alaina is a member of the Math  Club (4 years), Math Team (4 years), National Honor Society (2 years), Girls Tennis (3 years),  FBLA/DECA (2 years), Athletic Training (3 years), and is the Head Athletic Training Student at HUHS this year.  She is ranked 2nd in her class and last year received the National Honor Society Key Award. Alaina received special recognition as the Outstanding Oriole in November 2020.

Alaina has given back to her community by volunteering her time making COVID masks for residents in a nursing home in Oconomowoc.  She has also served as the director of several middle school math meets.

            After high school, Alaina plans to attend college to pursue a degree in Speech Pathology or Physical Therapy.  She would eventually like to pursue a career in the medical field.

Maci – November 2020-21 Student of the Month

Maci is a member of the Varsity Girls Basketball Team (4 years), Varsity Softball (4 years),  Volleyball (1 year), H-Club (3 years) and the National Honor Society (2 years).  She currently serves as Vice-President of the H-Club.  Maci has served as Captain of the Girls Varsity Softball team the past two years.  She received Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition for Girls Basketball and 2nd team All-Conference for Girls Softball her sophomore year,  and 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team all District and Honorable Mention All-Area her junior year for Girls Basketball.

Maci has given back to the community by donating blood at local blood drives, coaching youth sports teams, and helping at youth camps.  She has also participated in H-Club community service projects such as the Salvation Army bell ringing campaign, the Pink Pumpkin Run, the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Operation Christmas Child, and the Shamrock Shuffle Run.

Maci plans to attend McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois and continue to play basketball at the collegiate level.  She has not decided on a major yet but will most likely pursue a career in the STEM program or personal training.  After graduation from college, Maci also has an interest in coaching youth or high school sports.

Rebecca – November 2020-21 Student of the Month

Rebecca has been active in Cross Country (4 years), Track and Field (4 years), DECA (4 years), FBLA (3 years), National Honor Society (2 years), KMYA Aviation Club (1 year), Model UN (2 years), Best Buddies (1 year), SMART Team (2 years), and H-Club (2 years).  In 2019, Rebecca placed 5th in Parliamentary Procedure at the FBLA State Competition.  In 2020, she finished 6th in Team Decision Making Business Law and Ethics at the State DECA Competition.  Colwell served as Captain of the Girls Cross Country team in 2020. 

Rebecca is a member of the Richfield Rebels 4-H club.  She enjoys volunteering as opportunities arise through clubs and organizations.  Her favorite volunteer experiences have been making masks for Mask Up Milwaukee and Deck the Halls for all Abilities.

After graduation from high school, Rebecca plans to attend a 4-year university to pursue a degree in Industrial Engineering.

Ella – October 2020-21 Student of the Month

Ella is a member of the National Honor Society, H-Club, Student Council (4 years), Varsity Cross Country (4 years), Varsity Ski Team and state qualifier (3 years), School Musical (3 years), Varsity Track (2 years), Girl’s Soccer (1 year) and the HUHS Concert Choir.  She currently serves as Treasurer of the Student Council, Captain of the Ski Team, and is a member of the State Honors Choir.

Ella has helped at St. Kilian with funfest, the basketball tournaments, repairing bicycles, making blankets, and singing in the church choir.  She has volunteered at the Pink Pumpkin Run and the Washington County Fair.  Through her involvement in Student Council, Merklein has co-chaired and volunteered for the Veteran’s Breakfast, volunteered at blood drives, and assisted in putting together Hartford’s Homecoming activities.  She has rung bells for the Salvation Army, volunteered during the Hartford High School’s food drives, and assisted during local school fun fairs and field days.

Ella is currently undecided on her major but is looking at majoring in either engineering or a health-related field.  She is also looking at schools that would allow her to continue her running career.

Robert – October 2020-21 Student of the Month

Robert has been active in the Spring Play productions, the HUHS Concert Choir, Solo and Ensemble and the Boys Swimming program at Hartford.  He is a four year member, team Captain, and State Qualifier for the Boys Swimming Team.  Robert has also participated in State Solo and Ensemble and is a WSMA State Honors Choir Priority Alternate.  

Robert has given back to his community by volunteering as a music volunteer, liturgist and computer helper at First United Methodist Church.  He has participated in mission trips to Virginia and Michigan. Robert has been active in local Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs.  He also works as a lifeguard for the Hartford Recreation Department at their outdoor and indoor pools. 

Robert plans to attend college and has an interest in pursuing a possible major in Sociology, Political Science, or Social Work.  At this time, he is interested in UW-Madison, Lawrence University and St. Olaf College among others.
