Jacob – September 2018-19 Student of the Month

Jacob is a member of the National Honor Society, a 4-year member of the HUHS Fall Musical, a  4-year member and current Co-President of the HUHS Student Council, and a staff member of the HUHS School Newspaper.  In 2017 and 2018, Jacob was selected to sing with the WSMA State Honors Mixed Choir and was nominated for a Tommy Award for outstanding lead performance in the HUHS 2017 fall musical.  He was a member of the 2018 Junior Prom Court and is currently ranked 2nd academically in the class of 2019.

Jacob has given back to his community by volunteering his time, since 8th grade, on the Hartford Christmas Committee, Citizen Advocates of Washington County during his Junior and Senior year, and was a cast member of the Hartford Player’s production of Guys and Dolls.

In his spare time, Jacob likes photography, singing and participating in musicals, playing tennis, and exploring new cities and natural areas.  After graduation from HUHS, Jacob plans to pursue a major in journalism or music at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Veronica – September 2018-19 Student of the Month

Veronica is a member of the National Honor Society, the Model UN Club, and was a member of the HUHS Concert and Jazz Band during her Freshman and Sophomore years.  She has been on the High Honor Roll every semester and has been ranked #1 in her class all four years.  Veronica received the 4-H Career Award in Leadership in 2017, the St. Lawrence Church Religious Education Award for Excellence in 2018, and the HUHS National Honor Society Key Award for academic excellence.

Much of Veronica’s community service stems from the volunteer work done through St. Lawrence Church and the St. Lawrence 4-H Club.  She has participated in the Adopt-a-Highway program, caroling at local nursing homes, packaging and delivering Christmas stockings to the elderly, volunteering at Farmer’s Markets and Fair Park food stands and serving as a 4-H youth leader.

After graduation from HUHS, Veronica plans to attend Marquette University to pursue a degree in Engineering.

Alyssa – April 2017-18 Student of the month

Alyssa is a member of the National Honor Society, Editor in Chief of the Hartford Chronicle newspaper, Treasurer of Skills USA, and Treasurer of the Math Club at HUHS.  She also served as manager of the HUHS football team the past three years.  Alyssa received a first place award in photography in the Skills USA Sectionals and a first place award in Sports Photography in the NEWSPA competition

Alyssa has given back to her community by volunteering her time at the St. Gabriel Flea Market, serving as photographer for the Hartford Recreation Department teams, and participating as a Salvation Army bell ringer.  She was named Volunteer of the Year for the West Allis BID Ala Carte and Car Show.

After graduation from Hartford Union High School, Alyssa plans to attend UW-Madison to major in Kinesiology and eventually become a Pediatric Physical Therapist.

Aysiah – March 2017-18 Student of the Month

Aysiah is the daughter of Laurel and Timothy. She is a very active member of Student Council, H-Club, the Varsity Golf team, Concert Choir, the fall Musical casts, and National Honor Society. This year, she was elected as an executive board member of National Honor Society as well as awarded Academic All-State for girls golf. Aysiah is also involved in the SMART Team at HUHS where she serves as a team leader. The team is in the process of creating a poster explaining the protein SRSF2 which may ultimately play a role in a possible treatment for breast cancer. They plan on taking this poster to present in San Diego at the National Convention this spring.

Aysiah is an active member of the community as an employee at MJ Stevens Restaurant, a tutor through Casa Guadalupe’s Read-to Succeed Program, a volunteer coach for the Special Olympic golf team, and a member of the music ministry at St. Kilian’s Parish. Aysiah has also volunteered her time helping at community musicals and the local Relay for Life. She always makes it a priority to find time to play violin, piano, and guitar.

After graduation from Hartford Union High School, Aysiah plans to attend either St. Norbert College or Marquette University to pursue a degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology. With this degree, she hopes to attend medical school with the goal of attaining her MD PhD where she will be able to practice pathology as well as conduct her own research on the protein connections to various diseases.

Melissa – March 2017-18 Student of the Month

Melissa is the daughter of Ann and Michael. She is a member of the Varsity Math Team, National Honor Society, Student Council, and Students Modeling a Research Topic (SMART) Team at Hartford. She has a passion for Math and Science and is one of the leaders of the SMART Team and was recently chosen to be part of the Varsity Math Team that represented HUHS at the North Shore Conference Math Meet.

Outside of school, Melissa does volunteer work for St. John’s and St. Kilian’s Parishes. She has also volunteered her time for Habitat for Humanity, the HUHS National Honor Society, and Red Cross blood drives through the HUHS Student Council.

After high school, Melissa plans to attend UW-Madison to pursue a major in Materials Science and Engineering. She also would like to earn a Biology in Engineering Certificate so she can apply her degree in the medical field and help create materials for medical devices.

Callie – February 2017-18 Student of the Month

Callie is very active in the FBLA (Future Business Leaders Of America)/DECA organization at HUHS. Through FBLA/DECA, Callie has had the opportunity to participate in conferences, competitions, and other volunteer activities.

In her free time, Callie likes to travel and spend time with her friends and family. Since her sophomore year, she has done volunteer work at Aurora Hartford Hospital. This past summer, Callie volunteered her time at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls. She has also performed service hours at the Rescue Mission in Milwaukee and at the Restore program in Germantown.

After graduation from Hartford Union High School, Callie plans to attend U.W.-Milwaukee to pursue a career in the medical field.

Kylie – February 2017-18 Student of the Month

Kylie is Vice President of National Honor Society, Leadership Committee Chair on the HUHS Student Council, Student Editor of Creatif (a student-led poetry, prose, art, and photography publication), and was a member of the varsity girls tennis team during her junior and senior year. Kylie also represented HUHS at the World Affairs Seminar at Carroll University during her sophomore year and was named an AP Scholar with Honor due to the quantity of AP classes taken at Hartford.

Kylie is a member of the Day of Service planning team. In May 2018, all students at HUHS will participate in a school-wide day of volunteering on service projects at the high school and in the greater Hartford Community. Kylie also organized the Middle School Leadership Conference held at HUHS on January 24, 2018. At this conference, area middle school students had the opportunity to shadow HUHS students and participate in leadership and team building activities for the day.

At this time, Kylie has not decided on which university she plans to attend but she does have a broad range of interests including teaching, industrial engineering, and applied research psychology. No matter what career she chooses, her biggest goal is to never stop learning.

Kaitlin – January 2017-18 Student of the Month

Kaitlin is a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Club, the Concert Choir, and the Fall Musical performed at the Schauer Arts and Activities Center.  In previous years, Kaitlin was also active in Student Council, the Hartford Chronicle, FBLA/DECA, and the Spring Play.  Kaitlin has received several Tommy Nominations for musical performance.  She received a lead performance nomination for her role as Marie in Cinderella last fall and a supporting nomination for her role as Mrs. Corry in Mary Poppins during her junior year.  During her junior year, Kaitlin placed third in Humorous Feature Writing at the NEWSPA competition.

Kaitlin has given back to her community by volunteering her time as a summer camp counselor at Camp Kidsbrook, serving meals for the homeless at Harvest House, participating on a mission trip to Vicosa, Brazil, and assisting fellow students in the Writing Center at Hartford Union High School.  Kaitlin has been playing piano for the past twelve years and utilizes her skills as a student leader and member of the Worship Team at Northbrook Church.

After graduation from Hartford Union High School, Kaitlin plans to attend North Central University in Minneapolis, MN to earn her Baccalaureate Degree in Elementary Education (K-6)/Communication Arts & Literature (5-8).

Taylor – January 2017-18 Student of the Month

Taylor is very active in the FBLA (Future Business Leaders Of America) organization at HUHS.  Through FBLA, Taylor has had the opportunity to participate in conferences, competitions, and other volunteer activities.  Taylor participates in the Co-op/Youth apprentice program at Hartford.  Through this program, she works in the school store known as the Birdhouse.  Taylor has several responsibilities in the Birdhouse such as: order new apparel/inventory, serve the students, and complete weekly deposits.

In her free time, Taylor volunteers at the Aurora Medical Center of Washington County.  Last year, she volunteered in the gift shop.  This year, she is helping out with a variety of small jobs as they come up.  Through FBLA, Taylor has volunteered her time as a bell ringer at Walmart to help raise money for the Salvation Army.

After graduation from Hartford Union High School, Taylor plans to pursue a career in Business or as an Administrative Professional.  She has been accepted to attend UW-Whitewater, UW-Washington County, and Moraine Park Technical College but is still deciding which school will be her best option.

April – December 2017-18 Student of the Month

April has been active in co-curricular activities at Hartford participating in Forensics, the Film Club, the Pep Band, the Fall Musical, the Spring Play and is a member of the National Honor Society. She also serves as Secretary of her band, President of her choir and has served as a student director of the Spring Plays and Fall Musicals at HUHS.

April has given back to her community by volunteering her time with a youth group and going on several mission trips through First United Methodist Church. On the mission trips she participates in painting and woodworking projects and helping out in donation centers. April is also learning sign language through an online class at Hartford.

After graduation from Hartford Union High School, April plans to attend Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan to major in Psychology with a focus in Neurology.
