Ron Schlitt conducted the 2021 Teacher of the Year Recognition Program. He presented a plaque and a gift from the club to Jamie Lauer – Hartford Union High School, Karen Kapellusch – St. Kilian School, and Angela Cleary – School District of Hartford Jt. #1.
Jamie Lauer joined the Hartford Union High School Staff in 2012. She did not start off in the field of education but spent much of her early career doing research on a human blood substitute at Northfield Laboratories in Chicago. Jamie also did research at the Arizona Heart Institute and at Northwestern University. At Hartford she now teaches chemistry and is also an assistant girl’s cross country and track coach.
Karen Kapellusch has been a member of the Hartford community as both a student and an educator. She has taught at St. Kilian School for 31 years. Karen is a 1989 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. She received her Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Elementary Education and minoring in Language Arts. She was hired at St. Kilian School as a 5th grade teacher where she continues and spends much of her time leading, planning, and participating in many school wide Social Studies projects. Karen continues to find teaching her passion and is still motivated to introduce new and interesting ways to instruct and motivate her students.
Angie Cleary received her Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1987, where she majored in Special Education. Angie began teaching at Lincoln Elementary as a long-term substitute teacher in the fall of 1989 and was hired as a full-time special education teacher in 1990 for Central Middle School. In 2009, she earned her Masters of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. In addition to her teacher role, Angie is a team leader at Central. In this role, she is an advocate and leader for the special education staff. She helps with scheduling, attends leadership meetings, provides communication and facilitates grade level activities.
