Aysiah – March 2017-18 Student of the Month

Posted By Fred Wittenberger

Aysiah is the daughter of Laurel and Timothy. She is a very active member of Student Council, H-Club, the Varsity Golf team, Concert Choir, the fall Musical casts, and National Honor Society. This year, she was elected as an executive board member of National Honor Society as well as awarded Academic All-State for girls golf. Aysiah is also involved in the SMART Team at HUHS where she serves as a team leader. The team is in the process of creating a poster explaining the protein SRSF2 which may ultimately play a role in a possible treatment for breast cancer. They plan on taking this poster to present in San Diego at the National Convention this spring.

Aysiah is an active member of the community as an employee at MJ Stevens Restaurant, a tutor through Casa Guadalupe’s Read-to Succeed Program, a volunteer coach for the Special Olympic golf team, and a member of the music ministry at St. Kilian’s Parish. Aysiah has also volunteered her time helping at community musicals and the local Relay for Life. She always makes it a priority to find time to play violin, piano, and guitar.

After graduation from Hartford Union High School, Aysiah plans to attend either St. Norbert College or Marquette University to pursue a degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology. With this degree, she hopes to attend medical school with the goal of attaining her MD PhD where she will be able to practice pathology as well as conduct her own research on the protein connections to various diseases.
